Frontiers of Science Institute (FSI) is a program where 25-30 high school students participate in a research project for six weeks at the University of Northern Colorado. The research topics ranged from molecular biology and neuroscience to robotics and astrophysics. We were all expected to complete a research paper, a poster, a presentation, as well as a website. Along with the research, all of attended classes that focused on areas of science. From the human body, to quantum physics, to organic chemistry we explored many different areas of science every day with our instructors.
We also took many fun field trips including a trip to South Dakota. During our trip to South Dakota, all 31 of us were able to bond with one another as well as learn about the formation of caves and visit historical monuments such as Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. FSI was definitely a great learning experience and it has opened up my eyes to new fields of science that I never thought would fascinate.
